Referring Doctor

Is your referring physician really benefitting from your RIS PACS system?

The success and cost savings of a true RIS PACS system can be measured by the benefits felt by the patient and referring physician. A lot of healthcare professionals are not yet comfortable with technology. Therefore, your PACS system should make procedures in healthcare simpler and faster. Your patient needs to know that you care. Your referring physician needs to be able to easily embrace this technological advance and realise the benefits of receiving the reports and images digitally.

This process relies heavily on:

  • user friendly applications
  • the access to the correct tools for the referring physicians specialty
  • the application being able to run on a variety of hardware and being compatible with a different systems- there is no uniformity in this area in the hospital or doctors practice.
  • correct training allowing the user to be comfortable and confident with the system

In an effort to strengthen your ties with your referring physicians Pro Med makes it their task to get involved in the processes leading up to the switch over to their system. Your referring physician is trained with emphasis on enlightening them to all the benefits and functions. Many physicians are still afraid to move into the electronic age and need to be coerced with proficient training. Physicians can view reports with associated images selected by the radiologist. They will also have access to complete imaging history including prior reports and images. Referring physicians can access and view images at the same time that the radiologist is interpreting the exam. Insufficient training would result in frustration if the physicians cannot use these tools successfully.
